What is deep listening?

The art of deep listening is the practice of paying attention to ourselves, our surroundings, and the people around us with our full presence and attention. It's about being fully present in the moment and listening with our hearts, minds, and bodies. When we are present in these ways, we have an opportunity to listen to what is calling us, what is distracting us, and what wants to be heard from within us.

In my sound therapy practice, I’m not just playing singing bowls to get you to a peaceful state. I’m encouraging each of my clients to truly go within themselves while practicing deep listening to illuminate truths around healing trauma, transforming limiting beliefs, and finding mental clarity.

The sound of instruments like singing bowls, chimes, and shakers becomes tools to create a healing and calming environment that promotes deep listening and helps regulate your nervous system. When your nervous system is overstimulated or in a state of constant alertness, you may experience symptoms such as anxiety, stress, and insomnia. By regulating your nervous system, you can reduce these symptoms and promote a greater sense of relaxation and well-being. Most importantly in this work, when your nervous system is regulated, you are able to listen to hard truths and face the parts of you that are not being heard such as grief, anger, and even the dreams you might be ignoring.

In each 1:1 session, or sound bath event, I am also calling on my own deep listening practice – by listening to the space, the environment, and your intentions. I’m often intuitively picking up instruments that may be most effective in assisting each meditation journey.

In addition to using tools like sound and mental wellness techniques, I also use leadership coaching techniques to help you practice deep listening to help you navigate the challenges you’re facing. Especially in 1:1 Sound Therapy sessions, I often equip my clients with practical tools to help them move forward with new truths they have heard in their deep listening practice during a session. Offering these practical tools and techniques is a part of the integration practice – integrating what you’ve seen, heard, and felt to take steps forward in your daily journey in life.
